NILGOSC Chief Executive David Murphy opens the conference

On Wednesday 25th April 2018 NILGOSC hosted the Northern Ireland Public Service Pension Scheme Conference at the Stormont Hotel, Belfast.

There was a packed agenda for the day with delegates in attendance from all the public sector pension schemes in Northern Ireland and even some representatives from further afield.

The conference was opened and chaired by NILGOSC Chief Executive David Murphy who welcomed all the delegates to the conference.

Rebecca Woodley from the Pensions Regulator gave an overview of the Regulator's role and outlined its focus for the year ahead. The morning session concluded with a presentation from Cat Ellis and Andy Wright from Eversheds Sutherland on GDPR and the impact it may have on public bodies.

After lunch Mairi Spiby and Paul Strachan from the Pensions Ombudsman spoke about the role of the Ombudsman and the changes that had happened within the Ombudsman’s office in recent months.

Julie Thompson, the Department of Finance’s Budget Director, then gave an overview of the current budgetary landscape in Northern Ireland and the outlook to 2020.
