Pensions Technical Manager

NILGOSC administers the Local Government Pension Scheme for Northern Ireland. The Scheme is Northern Ireland’s largest pension fund valued at over £7bn and serves over 85,000 members, 33,000 pensioners and 176 employing authorities.

Pensions Technical Manager

Grade PO2, Salary £30,785 to £33,437 per annum (NJC spine points 35-38)

NILGOSC is currently seeking applicants to fill the role of Pensions Technical Manager. The key objective of the role will be to provide technical expertise, guidance and advice to Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS (NI)) members, employing authorities and NILGOSC staff whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements. Duties will include assessing the impact of changes in LGPS regulations and associated legislation to determine any action required; implementing a testing procedure for pensions administration software; managing technical projects; and producing/updating internal procedure manuals.

Qualifications, skills and experience: Applicants must have level two qualifications (e.g. five GCSEs, at grade C or above and including English and Mathematics) and either level three qualifications (e.g. two A levels) and three years’ experience* or a level five qualification (e.g. degree) and two years’ experience* or five years’ experience*. 

*Experience must be within the last eight years and of working in a UK pension environment. This should include experience of administering public and/or private sector pension schemes and experience of working in a technical capacity (i.e. providing technical advice and communication of pension related information).

Candidates must also have an in depth knowledge of UK pensions and associated legislation; proven ability to manage and develop staff; experience of planning and managing projects; and an ability to manage multiple tasks, balance competing priorities and meet deadlines.
