On 20 July 2021, HMT published its response to the consultation on increasing the normal minimum pension age (NMPA).  The draft legislation proposes increasing the NMPA from age 55 to 57 on 6 April 2028 and provides for some protected pension ages.  The Department for Communities will need to decide whether the LGPS (NI) rules should be amended to allow LGPS (NI) members to receive payment of benefits between ages 55 and 57.

More information can be found on the government website: Increasing the normal minimum pension age for Pensions Tax – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
