The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) today published its updated list of UK Stewardship Code signatories. NILGOSC is very pleased that its fourth Stewardship Report demonstrated continued efforts and improvements in the stewardship of the Fund’s assets, and continued to meet the FRC’s expected standard of reporting.
The 2020 UK Stewardship Code (the Code) sets high standards of stewardship for those investing money on behalf of UK savers and pensioners. The Code focuses on the activities and outcomes of stewardship, and is comprised of a set of 12 ‘apply and explain’ principles. Signatories are required to report annually on their stewardship policies, processes, activities and outcomes for a 12-month reporting period. During the rigorous review process, the FRC considers an organisation’s investment style, size and type, to determine eligibility. Today’s announcement brings the total number of signatories up to 299, representing £56 trillion of assets under management.
NILGOSC’s report for the period ended 30 June 2024 is available to review at: Stewardship Code Report 2024.
The FRC recently revised the Stewardship Code, with the intention of ensuring that the principles continue to drive the right stewardship outcomes for investors, while not unduly contributing to reporting burdens. The revised UK Stewardship Code 2026 was published in June 2025, and will apply from 1 January 2026 for reporting thereafter. To remain a signatory, asset owners, like NILGOSC, will be required to submit their first report under the 2026 Code (split into a ‘Policy and Context’ disclosure and an ‘Activities and Outcomes’ report) ahead of the application window closing on 31 May 2026.
