Recognising 75 Years of NILGOSC

Published on

Minister Gordon Lyons MLA joined the NILGOSC Board and Management at an event in Stormont celebrating 75 years of NILGOSC.

On 1 April 1950 NILGOSC was established in legislation with the aim of bringing together dispersed pension funds from the local government sector in Northern Ireland, starting with 1849 members, 120 employers and a fund valued at £512,000.

From the start NILGOSC has had equal numbers of employer representatives and employee representatives on its Board.  This is how the Department (now the Department for Communities) established the organisation.  Now all public sector schemes have a pensions board with equal numbers of employer and employee representatives.

Today NILGOSC serves over 175,000 members and 170 employers and manages a fund of £11bn.  In recognition of this significant contribution and the continued service NILGOSC provides, Minister Gordon Lyons MLA joined the NILGOSC Board and Management at an event in Stormont celebrating in some of the highlights of the last 75 years.
